In 1996, Chris designed a bridge spanning five main lanes, an open median, and three lanes of frontage road. Future reconstruction of the Interstate precluded placing columns in the grass median. Chris included all secondary members in his space frame analysis of the steel plate girder superstructure, designed the diaphragms to properly distribute differential loading, and detailed redundancy into the superstructure. This refinement reduced necessary girder depth by one foot, increasing vertical clearance and improving public safety. He also designed the entire substructure for the main lane portion, detailing flush framed concrete bents with impact resistant columns. Chris designed sign and signal supports for the entire bridge.
